Happy New Year

When I last posted, Bill and I were on our Santa Fe and Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta trip. When we returned home we had a little more than 2 weeks before we departed to Maui for a, planned, 5 week stay at our condo.

I did not do any posts during the time in Hawaii, in part because, to us, this is just another home, and just how many beach pictures do you want to see? But, I will choose a few pictures to share from that stay.

In early November, Bill and I drove to Lahaina to meet Bob and Steve, friends from Palm Springs who were on a trans-Pacific cruise stopping in Lahaina for the day. We met them and went to one of our favorite places for lunch, Star Noodle.

We enjoyed our short time with Bob and Steve, but look forward to seeing them back in Palm Springs. When we are in Hawaii, Bill goes to the beach most days. I, on the other hand, go a couple times a week and either hang around the condo or, not surprisingly, take a bike ride.

I had to cut short my time in Hawaii as we got news that my stepmother was seriously ill, and on the Friday after Thanksgiving, I flew to Tulsa arriving on Sunday morning, and she passed early Monday. Since then, I have been back and forth between home and Tulsa a couple of times and I am writing this at my Dad’s kitchen table.

In between the Tulsa trips, Bill and I took a little travel trailer trip to Jalama Beach County Park near Lompoc. We were joined by several friends and had a relaxing couple of days.

Bill and I took the bikes into Lompoc and rode out to Ocean Beach park for a nice 35 mile ride, which put me over the top of my goal of 3,500 miles on the bike this year.

Bill and I spent a quiet Christmas eve at home making a ribeye roast and then joined friends at Peter and Mark’s home for a Christmas brunch. On the 26th, we drove over to Irvine to spend time with our friends Brian and Dave.

Christmas Eve dinner at home.

While in Irvine, we took our last bike ride of the year, a nice 35 mile ride from our friend’s house in Irvine to Newport Beach and lunch at Charlie’s Chili, a historic eatery right at the Newport Beach pier.

On the 29th, I flew from Palm Springs to Dallas, and then drove to Bixby. and joined my Brother, Keith, his wife, Joanette and our Dad to celebrate The New Year.

Well, that gets you caught up. I will be spending quite a bit of time in Oklahoma as we get Dad settled in, after losing his wife, Janet. Bill is flying here on the 9th for a few days and then we have a wedding in Las Vegas.

We have two long trips planned for the first half of the year, a monthlong South American cruise in March, and a 2 month long trip to Europe in May and June. Until then!
